The Red Hibuscus

The red hibuscus is a type of flower found comonly in the kampung. It is grown by the residents and some are also growing wildly. These are some facts of the hibuscus.

  • It is used by the hawaiian or tahitian girls to indicate whether their status ina relationship

  • Offering to Goddess Kali ann God Ganesha

  • The sap is used to blow bubbles in the phillipines

Sugercane

 

The sugercane is a plant widely found in the kampung as it grows well and is a soure of food. Here are some facts on the sugercane

  • It usually grows 4m to 5m

  • 5cm in diameter

  • It is native to south-east asia

  • It can be made into a refreshing drink

  • The baggesse can be made into paper and burnt to make electricity.

 

 

Costus 

The costus plant is found growing freely in the kampung as it is native to South-east asia

  • The root can serve medicinal purposes.

  • It can be used to cure worm infections

  • Can be used to make dysentry and chlorea

  • Costus oil is used as a flavouring component 

 

Allamanda

The allamanda can be found everywhere in the kampong as it grows everywhere as long as there is adequate water and sunlight, it can be found from commercial buildings to dumps

  • It grows well

  • Resist HIV cells, carcinoma cells and pathogenic fungi

  • Grows quickly

 

Rambutan Tree

This is a unique tree not very common in the kampung. There are only about 5 of them grown by different households. The rambutan tree serves as a source of food for them

  • The rambutan can be eaten

  • Can treat thrush, headaches and dysentry

  • Can be sold into the market

 

 

 

 

 

 

Coconut Tree

Coconut Tree can be found randomly in the kampong, and his quite common. As you make your way through the kampong, you can see many fallen coconuts lying the ground.
